ORSP Research Leadership Faculty Fellows

The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects is pleased to announce UTEP’s first two Research Leadership Faculty Fellows. The role of these fellows is to help grow the research potential of the University of Texas at El Paso by assisting in areas including developing NIH grant proposals, networking with faculty on finding sources of funding, fostering interdisciplinary research, mentoring junior faculty through the JumpStart Your Research Program, facilitating communication with the Associate Deans for Research, and working with the Vice President for Research to develop new strategic initiatives. 

Dr. June Kan-Mitchell has been Professor of Biological Sciences at UTEP since 2007. She has an outstanding history of biomedical research in cancer and infectious diseases and has been a Principal Investigator with continuous grant funding, primarily from the National Institutes of Health. In addition, she has served on more than 40 national review panels and as a consultant for a variety of biotech companies. She has been an associate editor of five journals, including Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy and HIV/AIDS-Research and Palliative Care and a reviewer for more than 20 scientific journals. Dr. Kan-Mitchell’s expertise will be most directly applicable to biomedical research proposals, especially those targeting the wide range of funding mechanisms of the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Diane Doser has been an outstanding researcher in the Department of Geological Sciences at UTEP for over 27 years. She has a strong record of funding for geophysics research from a variety of agencies such as the National Science Foundation, US Geological Survey, Environmental Protection Agency, National Park Service, and the American Chemical Society. She also has substantial experience on grant review panels for many of those same agencies. In addition, she is an excellent teacher having received the 2010 University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Award. We believe that Dr. Doser’s experience will be of particular value to researchers in the physical sciences and in education, particularly in funding from the National Science Foundation.

UTEP is indeed fortunate to have two such distinguished and capable faculty researchers in this inaugural class of Research Leadership Faculty Fellows. We look forward to working closely with them over the next year.
