R&I Honorific Awards

Recognizing Research Excellence, Scholarly Distinction & Impact

April 8, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM by Invitation

Honorific awards reflect the character of a university’s research enterprise, what it aspires to achieve, what it advances, and how it defines impact. Every spring, the R&I Honorific Awards celebrate faculty members at every stage of their careers whose contributions embody UTEP’s values: rigorous scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research grounded in community relevance.

Each year’s recognition spans honorees across disciplines and career stages. Together, they reflect a research community where excellence is visible, supported, and celebrated.

First-Time Principal Investigators

Expanding the Pipeline of Research Leadership

January 28, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM by Invitation

Securing a first external grant is a defining moment in a faculty member’s career. In 2024, 22 UTEP faculty reached that milestone, securing competitive awards from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Energy (DOE), and private foundations.

These awards highlight emerging areas of strength and underscore the importance of early support, mentorship, and strategic guidance. To honor these new Principal Investigators, R&I hosts the Pioneering Researcher Reception in January. Awardees represent health sciences, engineering, liberal arts, and beyond, emphasizing UTEP’s growing competitiveness among Texas’s top research universities.
