Welcome to the Office of Sponsored Projects, better known as OSP!
Under the leadership of the Vice President for Research & Innovation, OSP is the central administrative office for seeking and accepting external funding at UTEP. As Director of OSP, it is a privilege to steward the University’s research efforts through integrity, professional execution, and careful management of UTEP’s sponsored research activities together with regulatory compliance to the University's policies and procedures.
Our team of Research Administrators and Contract Specialists purpose is to absorb the administrative burden of proposal submission and management of awarded grants, allowing faculty more time to focus on mentoring students in addition to fostering and performing their own research endeavors. To achieve continued success in the production of this core function, our team encourages good project management practices from PI’s while providing pre- and post-award grant management support.
OSP believes in collaborative relationships between administrators and investigators working jointly towards the common goal of winning outside funding for projects of benefit to the UTEP community. We also warrant compliance with state and federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and grant-specific terms and conditions.
We look forward to working with you!

Before we share what we do at OSP, it is important to determine whether your opportunity is a sponsored project.
A sponsored project is an activity in which there is a specified statement of work for the University to execute with a related, mutual transfer of something of value (whether tangible or intangible) for a public purpose or as a direct benefit to the sponsor. In short, sponsored projects are funded research, instruction, testing, training, service, or other scholarly activities in which a formal written agreement or contract is entered into between UTEP and the sponsor.
OSP is responsible for ensuring that all research proposals and projects adhere to UTEP’s academic and research policies and meet obligations to external sponsors. Through teamwork and partnership, OSP provides support and builds relationships with PI’s to successfully apply for research funding. Our office oversees the following:
