The Rubin Center presented the 2012 Annual Juried UTEP Student Art Exhibition, showcasing works of art and design created by undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Art during the 2011 – 2012 school year. All media taught in the department was represented, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, metals and graphic design. Fine arts juror Cheryl Hartup and graphic design juror Andrew Lewis chose a selection of the best student work for display.

Cheryl Hartup is the Chief Curator of the Museo de Arte de Ponce in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Since 2005 she has been in charge of the curatorial department and permanent collection, establishing international collaborations, organizing traveling exhibitions, developing a collection plan, and launching research initiatives. Before coming to the Museo de Arte de Ponce, Hartup was an associate curator at the Miami Art Museum from 2000 to 2005 and a curatorial assistant at the Dallas Museum of Art from 1998 to 2000. She received a master’s degree in art history from the University of Texas at Austin, and a master’s degree in Latin American and Caribbean studies and a certificate in museum studies from New York University.

Andrew Lewis, an internationally recognized Canadian art director and graphic designer, is widely acclaimed for his award-winning corporate brand identities, ground-breaking consumer packaging and bold poster art. A much sought after lecturer/speaker at design conferences and universities in Canada, USA, Latin America, as well as Europe and Asia, his work is included in myriad international collections, design conferences, poster biennials and design text books. His clients span the globe and include such household names at Perrier, Starbucks, Zyliss and VISA. Lewis was recently heralded by Rockport Publishing as one of “The 30 New Poster Masters”.
