Q: What is the MAT-Science?
A: Master of Arts in Teaching Science. This degree requires at least 36 semester hours of coursework, depending on the track. You select an area of emphasis from Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics or Earth Science.
Q: When are classes scheduled?
A: Classes are held at times convenient to working teachers - summers, evenings, and possibly weekends.
Q: Do I have to be a certified science teacher?
A: No. The program is specially designed for high-school science teachers with at least two years of teaching experience. If you are not certified, you are encouraged to obtain a teaching certificate in science upon completion of the program. Please consult the College of Education about getting your certification.
Q: Is there a minimum skill level I should have entering the MAT program?
A: Freshman level science courses in your area of emphasis are recommended. Leveling courses may be required.
Q: Where can I apply?
A: You must apply through UTEP's Graduate School.
