STRATEGIC GOALS

GOAL 4

SHAPE THE FUTURE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

INITIATIVE 4

Establish UTEP Press as a modern publishing outlet for academic and popular books to promote the creation and dissemination of knowledge and enhance UTEP’s position as an intellectual and cultural leader of the geographic and academic communities we serve.

Initiative 3

An important core of the UTEP mission is the creation and dissemination of knowledge. To facilitate knowledge dissemination, the University’s press, relaunched in 2025 as UTEP Press, uses modern print-on-demand, e-book and audiobook technology to make high-quality books available to people around the world with almost none of the legacy overhead costs of traditional university presses.

UTEP Press will publish books that advance knowledge and disseminate positive discovery and research that impacts UTEP’s community and the world in a way that is accessible to a general audience. The specialty imprint Texas Western Press will focus on Southwest and Borderlands topics. It will also republish other books from the Texas Western Press historic catalog and make them available for print-on-demand or digital acquisition.

UTEP Press will use book stipends and awards to recruit authors of high-quality, relevant works, prioritizing works based on research with impact by UTEP faculty, staff and students. The press will actively seek to publish books that share our success as an exemplary Hispanic-serving university.
