Udall Scholarship

The Udall Scholarship funds future leaders interested in environmental and conservation issues, as well as Native American and Alaska Natives working on Tribal policy or Native health care. It honors the legacies of Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall, whose careers had a significant impact on the stewardship of public lands and natural resources, and on Native American self-governance and health care. Please see below for more information on each of these Udall Scholarship priorities.

Environmental

  • Are you a college sophomore or junior?
  • Are you interested in conservation, environmental stewardship, or environmental policy?
  • Have you demonstrated your commitment to the environment through participation in campus activities or service to your community?
  • Are you working towards a career that will enable you to address environmental issues on a local, national, or global scale?

Tribal Policy

  • Are you a Native American or Alaska Native college student currently in your sophomore or junior year?
  • Have you demonstrated your commitment to Indian country through participation in cultural activities and service to your community?
  • Are you working towards a career that will enable you to make a difference for your tribe or for Native Americans and Alaska Natives?

Native Health Care

  • Are you a Native American or Alaska Native college student currently in your sophomore or junior year?
  • Are you interested in improving health care practice and delivery in Indian country, or contributing to health care policy and research?
  • Have you demonstrated your commitment to Indian country through participation in cultural activities and service to your community?
  • Are you working towards a career that will enable you to impact health care for your tribe or for Native Americans and Alaska Natives?

Udall Foundation - Udall Undergraduate Scholarship - Native Health Care

FELLOWSHIP OVERVIEW

This award requires a UTEP nomination. Students wishing to pursue UTEP’s nomination to compete at the national must submit application materials by the Campus Nomination Deadline on December 15, 2025 at 11:59 PM MST.

Environmental Category eligibility:

  • S. Citizens, Nationals, and Lawful Permanent Residents
  • Sophomore or junior-level students of accredited higher education institutions
  • Intend to pursue careers related to the environment
  • Meet other appropriate eligibility requirements set by the Udall Foundation

Tribal Policy and Native Health Care Categories eligibility:

  • S. Citizens, Nationals, and Lawful Permanent Residents
  • Enrolled members of one or more Federally Recognized Indian Tribes that are included in the annual list of Indian Tribes published by the Secretary of the Interior pursuant to 25 U.S.C. § 5131
  • Intend to pursue careers in health care or Tribal public policy
  • Meet other appropriate eligibility requirements set by the Udall Foundation.
