Scholar Program

There are four mandatory events held each academic year. These events allow for all scholars to come together to network with Terry Foundation staff, members of the Terry Foundation Board of Directors, Terry Scholar Alumni, and University administrators.

At the beginning of each academic year, the Foundation hosts an orientation event for all current and incoming Traditional and Transfer Scholars. Scholars receive valuable information about the Terry Scholarship at UTEP program, strategies for student success, and the Terry Scholar at UTEP student organization on their campus, in addition to meeting their Terry Campus Coordinator and their Scholar Relations contact from the Foundation. Attendance at Terry Orientation is mandatory for all current Terry Scholars at UTEP.

The Terry Foundation sponsors a formal dinner in the fall. The dinner features presentations by representatives of the Terry Scholar Student Organization and an invited guest speaker. The banquet is an opportunity for Terry Scholars at UTEP to meet and network with the Terry alumni, Directors, Foundation staff, University administrators and other Scholars. Every current Terry Scholar at UTEP is required to attend and participate.

In the late spring, all of the Scholars attend a picnic where the accomplishments of the graduating seniors are recognized. Terry Alumni, Board and Advisory Board Members, and University Partners will join current Scholars to celebrate the seniors. Every current Terry Scholar at UTEP is required to attend and participate.

At the end of the spring semester, there is a reception that honors all graduating seniors and incoming scholars. Graduating Terry Scholars at UTEP receive their cords and white stoles for the commencement ceremony. The incoming cohort is invited to receive their official Terry Scholar at UTEP certificate and begin their journey.
