I have a BA in Puerto Rican and Latino Studies from Brooklyn College (CUNY), a MA in International Relations from the City College of New York (CUNY), and a PhD from the University of Toronto in Political Science
My research focuses on human security and transnational migration with a regional focus on Latin America.
In the past, I was a visiting professor at the Universidad de Los Andes (ULA) in Mérida, Venezuela, a visiting researcher at the Centro de Investigación y Educación Popular (CINEP) in Bogotá, Colombia, and a research professor at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Querétaro, México.
I am currently working on a research project that examines how state and non-state actors assume functions related to migrant incorporation in the Colombian and Mexican borderlands.
I have published my research in the Journal of International Relations and Development, International Migration, and Latin American Politics and Society.
My research has received funding from the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, the Puentes Consortium, and the International Development Research Centre of Canada.
I am an avid football (e.g. soccer) fan and spend far too much time following my club.
