Dr. Paul D. Ashby
Assistant Professor of Instruction and DSS Graduate Director
- Dr. Paul Ashby is the Director/Advisor of the Master's in Defense and Strategic Studies (MDSS) and a Assistant Professor of Instruction in Security Studies. He teaches multiple courses across the MDSS program as well as the intelligence and National Security Studies (INSS) program. His current research revolves around North American regional security and U.S. efforts to integrate Mexico into regional security frameworks, amidst escalating transnational security challenges and fractious U.S. domestic politics. He is writing a monograph on this subject which will be published by Routledge in 2022. He is also researching global U.S. security cooperation amidst its evolving 21st Centruy grand strategy. He has broad teaching expertise on the practicalities and key contemporary debates of U.S. grand strategy, national security, and foreign policy, as well as deep experience teaching core Security Studies and International Relations classes.
