CHS Undergrads Named American Physiological Society STRIDE Fellows
Bachelor of Science in Rehab Science Students Named 2018 STRIDE Undergraduate Summer Research Fellows
Marcelo Pena and Elizabeth Trujillo (see attached photo, far left and far right) were recently named STRIDE Undergraduate Research Fellows by the American Physiological Society. Twenty-one fellows across the nation were selected to participate in the program, which intends to support underrepresented students and increase diversity in health-related research. Fellows spend 10... weeks during the summer in the laboratory of an APS member-researcher and conduct research in the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute mission areas of cardiovascular, pulmonary, hematologic and sleep disorder research. Fellows will learn how to develop a hypothesis, design and troubleshoot experiments, collect and analyze data and write and present results. Marcelo and Elizabeth will spend their time in the laboratory of APS member and Physical Therapy Program Director Dr. Alvaro Gurovich.
In addition to a stipend for the summer work, fellows will receive travel funds to present their research at the APS annual meeting of Experimental Biology 2019 in Orlando, Florida.
The STRIDE program is supported by the APS and a grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NHLBI; 1 R25 HL115473-01)
