UTEP College of Health Sciences Plays Key Role at Graduate Research Expo 2017


COHS students and faculty had a major presence at the 2017 Graduate Research Expo on Friday, September 10, 2017. Dean Shafik Dharamsi, keynote speaker at the event, appealed to the audience of student and faculty researchers to think about how to integrate social responsibility into graduate education and how to use their knowledge for the common good. Students in the Departments of Kinesiology, Public Health, and the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences PhD Program gave oral and poster presentations on topics including antiobiotic resistance in the Rio Grande River; impact of an exercise regimine on insulin sensitivity; interventions leading to better upper extremity coordination in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder; the role of the vertical jump in athletic performance; and the impact of a county wide survey on alcohol restrictions at the El Paso County SportsPlex. Faculty from the Departments of Kinesiology, Occuptional Therapy and Physical Therapy served as guest judges for student presentations.
