OTD Application Process and Tips
Welcome to the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) application site!
We believe in active learning and offer opportunities for students to learn in real community settings very early in the program.
Our program is located in a culturally diverse region, and our students graduate with strong skills in cultural awareness and sensitivity and two Spanish language courses. Through service learning and field experiences, students also develop skills to understand and practice OT with underserved populations. These are highly desirable skills easily applied in any practice setting, in any geographical region. After six semesters of didactic coursework, the program culminates during the last three semesters with two 12-week clinical fieldwork rotations, and one 14-week doctoral experience and a capstone project.
Upon completion of didactic coursework, clinical fieldwork rotations, and the doctoral experience, students are eligible for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam, which, with successful completion, makes students eligible for licensure in any state to practice Occupational Therapy. UTEP and the College of Health Sciences are experiencing rapid growth. Our graduates are in high demand in this region, the state and across the country.
