Assistant/Associate Professor- Bilingual/Biliteracy Education
The Department of Teacher Education invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Bilingual/Biliteracy Education to begin Fall 2019. Responsibilities will include the following: teaching and advising at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels; developing and maintaining an active research agenda in education for emergent bilinguals; actively pursuing external funding to support research activities; partnering with local schools in the borderland region; collaborating in professional service with colleagues across departments.
Required Qualifications: A doctoral degree in bilingual education or a related field relevant to the education of emergent bilinguals (by date of hire); an established record of research (associate level) or strong potential for research (assistant level), including external funding; a minimum of 3 years teaching experience in preK-12 educational settings. Preferred: Bilingual and able to teach university courses in Spanish and English; research expertise and preK-12 teaching experience specifically in biliteracy/dual language instruction; experience in cultivating public school-university partnerships; record of public school teacher certification.
Assistant/Associate Professor- Educational Leadership
The Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) announces a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate level in Educational Leadership with a focus on K-12 principal preparation. Presently, all Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) across the State are undergoing extensive program development with the introduction of the new set of standards for principals (TAC 241) and a new TExES Principal Certification exam (268). The faculty member will be expected to support program development to improve principal preparation consistent with the new State requirements.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active equity-oriented research agenda with relevance for the local school districts and the El Paso Borderlands region, seek and obtain external funding, teach and mentor graduate students, and provide service to the department, college, and university. Teaching responsibilities include graduate courses in one or more of our programs: Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration, Master's in Educational Administration with a K-12 or Higher Education focus, and Principal and Superintendent Certification.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration or a closely related field;
- Successful experience in K-12 school leadership or administrative experience in school or central office settings (assistant principal, principal, school district director, assistant or associate superintendent);
- Demonstrated evidence of a publication record or potential to publish;
- The ability to articulate a developing research agenda;
- Record of external funding and/or potential to obtain grants;
- Demonstrated evidence of potential for effective teaching, advising, and mentoring at the graduate level;
- The ability to work collaboratively with other faculty members;
- Applicants who are currently completing a doctoral degree must submit evidence indicating completion of the degree prior to the date of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with marginalized student populations and/or communities;
- Cultural competence, including a commitment to serving the region's student population that is majority first generation, Hispanic, and low-income;
- Potential for and/or experience with building educational and school district partnerships;
- The ability to teach a variety of courses in educational leadership and school improvement at the master's and doctoral levels;
- Successful experience mentoring doctoral students through timely degree completion;
- Experience monitoring, revising, and improving graduate programs.
Assistant Professor- Special Education
The University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for an assistant professor faculty position in Special Education in the College of Education. Applicants will be expected to take a leadership role and teach in the Special Education Program. The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities including the following: (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, including online instruction; (2) developing and/or continuing a sustained program of research and scholarship; (3) participating in broad-based university, college, and departmental committee work and professional service; (4) seeking external funding; and (5) advising students. Optional teaching in summer school is generally available.
Required Qualifications: (1) Doctorate in special education with an open area of specialization. ABD candidates will be considered; (2) evidence of teaching effectiveness; (3) evidence of a sustainable program of scholarship, research, and grant writing; and (4) ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and professionals.
Desired Qualifications: (1) Experience of teaching individuals with a disability; (2) demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or supervision in undergraduate/graduate special education courses and (3) active participation in appropriate professional organizations.
