Call for Nominations: EVELYN SCHWARTZ ENDOWED AWARD
The UTEP College of Education is currently accepting nominations for the Evelyn Schwartz Endowed Award, a monetary recognition designed to honor novice teachers. Through the Schwartz Award, we celebrate exceptional novice teachers with a $1,000 award and recognition at the 2024 College of Education Recognition Event for their impressive achievements and innovative work with students and teaching practices (e.g., standards-based instruction, integration of technology, interdisciplinary curricula, and work with parents and school community). The purpose of this award is to encourage new teachers to continue to develop teaching skills and advocate for the profession. To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Graduated from UTEP.
- Five years of teaching or less (not counting student teaching or residency).
- Demonstrated innovative work with students and teaching practices (e.g., standards-based instruction, integration of technology, interdisciplinary curricula, and work with parents and school community).
- Teachers may be nominated by school principals, fellow teachers, school district personnel, or members of the community.
- Nominees will be notified of their nomination starting January 16, 2024. Upon notification, they will receive the Nominee Response Form via email. It is essential for nominees to complete this form by February 2, 2024, as it plays a crucial role in finalizing their nomination and being considered for the award.

Call for Nominations: LAVIS EXCELLENCE AWARD
The UTEP College of Education is currently accepting nominations for the Lavis Excellence Award, a monetary recognition designed to honor mentor teachers. Through the Lavis Award, we celebrate exceptional mentor teachers with a $2,500 award and recognition at the 2024 College of Education Recognition Event for their excellence in teaching and commitment to guiding teacher candidates. The College of Education deeply values the significance of strong mentor-mentee relationships and their profound impact on professional development and career advancement. To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Served as a mentor/cooperating teacher for a UTEP teacher candidate in the last two years.
- Demonstrated a positive and impactful mentoring relationship with a teacher candidate.
- Mentor teachers may be nominated by their school principals, fellow teachers, school district personnel, or a current or former mentee.
- Nominees will be notified of their nomination starting January 16, 2024. Upon notification, they will receive the Nominee Response Form via email. It is essential for nominees to complete this form by February 2, 2024, as it plays a crucial role in finalizing their nomination and being considered for the award.
