Teacher Awards Nominations
EVELYN SCHWARTZ ENDOWED AWARD
Call for Nominations:
The UTEP College of Education is seeking nominations for the Evelyn Schwartz Endowed Award, which is a monetary recognition given to novice public school teachers. Through the Schwartz Award, we honor extraordinary teachers with an award of $1,000 and recognition at the 2023 College of Education Recognition Event for their already impressive achievements and innovative work with students and teaching practices (e.g., standards-based instruction, integration of technology, interdisciplinary curricula, and work with parents and school community). The purpose of this award is to encourage new teachers to continue to develop teaching skills and advocate for the profession. Awardees will be selected by a committee based on the following criteria:
- Graduated from UTEP
- Teaching 5 years or less (not counting student teaching or residency)
- Demonstrated innovative work with students and teaching practices (e.g., standards-based instruction, integration of technology, interdisciplinary curricula, and work with parents and school community)
- Teachers may be nominated by their school principals, fellow teachers, school district personnel, or members of the community
- As part of the nomination process, each nominee must submit a statement (300-500 words) that provides specific examples of their innovative work with students and teaching practices. Please submit statement to saguirre2@utep.edu by February 24, 2023.

**Awardees will be announced on March 30, 2023 at the COED Recognition Event.
LAVIS EXCELLENCE AWARD
Call for Nominations:
The UTEP College of Education is seeking nominations for the Lavis Excellence Award, which is a monetary recognition given to public school mentor teachers. Through the Lavis Award, we honor extraordinary mentor teachers with an award of $2,500 and recognition at the 2023 College of Education Recognition Event for their excellence in teaching and dedication to mentoring teacher candidates. The College of Education recognizes the value of quality mentoring relationships and the impact they have on professional development and career advancement. Awardees will be selected by a committee based on the following criteria:
- Served as a mentor/cooperating teacher for a UTEP teacher candidate in the last two years
- Demonstrated a positive mentoring relationship with a teacher candidate
- Mentor teachers may be nominated by their school principals, fellow teachers, school district personnel, or a current or former mentee
- As part of the nomination process, each nominee must submit a statement (300-500 words) on their mentoring philosophy and positive relationship with a teacher candidate. Please submit statement saguirre2@utep.edu by February 24, 2023.
