Community — Advocacy — Leadership

The Graduate School congratulates the elected 2022-23 Graduate Student Assembly leaders:

America Alvarez (PhD-Geological Sciences), President

As President, my goal is to work collaboratively with the GSA Executive Board, Graduate Program Representatives, the Graduate School, SGA, other UTEP departments, and the El Paso-Juárez community to coordinate programs and events for all graduate students to promote inclusivity and overall success.

Mohammad "Rub" Rahman (MA-Political Science), Vice President- Internal

As the GSA Vice President of Internal Affairs, I feel proud to represent and stand with graduate students at UTEP. My goal is to facilitate proactive participation of the UTEO graduate students in GSA. As GSA Vice President, I am responsible to work with other GSA executive members for fostering and maintaining relationships across UTEP and representing graduate student interests.

Brianna Trejo (PhD-Educational Leadership and Administration), Vice President- External

My goal as Vice President of External Affairs is to support graduate students by providing opportunities to develop professional skills through events. I hope to also provide a collaborative experience for graduate students in thesis and non-thesis tracks by providing them the opportunity to share their experiences and/or research with peers and undergraduate students to inspire the next generation of UTEP graduate students.

Bianca Gurrola (PhD-Psychology), Secretary

My goal as Secretary is to facilitate communication between GSA and UTEP graduate students to ensure that graduate students’ questions and concerns are being heard and addressed while also notifying graduate students of important updates and information that will help them succeed in their respective graduate program.

Brittany Huskey (PhD-Interdisciplinary Health Sciences), Treasurer

I am very excited to be the new Treasurer for GSA. In this role I plan on managing funds and providing updates on the allocations that GSA receives. My goal for this position is to coordinate volunteers and activities, fundraising events, and serve as a liaison with SGA Appropriations Committee.

About

The Graduate Student Assembly (GSA)  is the representative body for all graduate students on UTEP’s campus.

GSA ensures that students' concerns are heard.

GSA contributes to a collegial, collaborative, and interdisciplinary community of graduate students.

More broadly, GSA shares the Graduate School's commitment to fostering an inclusive, safe, and diverse culture of graduate education.

You can help, too.

GSA wants to ensure the success of UTEP graduate students.

All UTEP graduate students are automatically members of the Graduate Student Assembly, and each College/School and graduate program can name a representative to the Graduate Student Advisory Board.

If you would like to become more active in the group, attend our next meeting or event, follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or email us at gradsa@utep.edu.
