For-credit Internship
One of the strongest components of the UTEP Museum Studies program is the for-credit Internship course (ART 4339) that places MUSE students in Community Partner Institutions for professionally transformative, on-site, semester-long immersions. ART 4339 is a structured for-credit Internship class with a dedicated UTEP instructor who serves as an advocate for both the students and the partner institution’s Site Supervisors, foster a mutually enriching and supportive Internship experience.
The Internship requires at least 6 hours per week in the student’s Placement Site, for a total of 96 hours across the semester. It our goal to place students in an institution that matches their personal subject-area interests and professional museum aspirations, while also coordinating with our Community Partner Institutions to support their own ongoing project and exhibition calendars. Students should communicate early and often with Dr. Strauss about their goals for their Internship experience. Around the midpoint of the semester before a student registers for ART 4339, the MUSE program will begin working on the student’s Site Placement and assignment of Site Supervisor.
