How to Check for Microsoft Defender
Follow these steps to check your UTEP computer for the Microsoft Defender antivirus software.
If your computer does not have it enabled, please contact Liberal Arts TIM Andy Castellanos at acastellanos@utep.edu to have you computer properly configured.
1a. On Windows, click on the "Windows Security" icon in your System Tray:
1b. On macOS, Microsoft Defender is installed if there is a security shield icon in your Menu Bar. If it does not have it, contact Liberal Arts TIM Andy Castellanos acastellanos@utep.edu to have your Mac properly configured.
2a. Windows: click on the "Virus & threat protection" link in the "Windows Security" window:
2b. macOS: Click on the Microsoft Defender icon in your Menu Bar and select "Open Microsoft Defender" to continue:
3a. Windows: in the "Current threats" section, there should be "No current threats." Click on the "Manage providers" link to continue:
3b. macOS: in the "Virus & threat protection" window, it should say that there are "No current threats," that for settings "No action is needed," and that "Protection definitions are up to date." If they do not, contact Liberal Arts TIM Andy Castellanos acastellanos@utep.edu to have your antivirus properly configured.
4. Windows: in the "Security providers" window, it should list "Microsoft Defender Antivirus" in the Antivirus section and that it "is turned on." If this is not the case, please contact Liberal Arts TIM Andy Castellanos acastellanos@utep.edu to have your antivirus properly configured:
