Master of Science in Nursing (MSN-Online)
The MSN program prepares professional nurses for post-graduate roles in a variety of advanced practice and specialty areas in and online setting. Graduates have increased autonomy and independence in their practice and NP Graduates are eligible to apply for national certification. The degree of Master of Science in Nursing provides the graduate the opportunity to complete the following program outcomes:
- Apply theoretical perspectives, scientific evidence, and visionary thinking to critically analyze and lead complex organizational systems and implement innovative change.
- Use interpersonal, inter-professional and organizational communication and relationship building skills to create and lead highly functioning, reliable and healthy inter professional teams.
- Combine business skills and principles, evidence-based practice, informatics, quality and safety strategies and metrics to lead care systems for improvement of processes and outcomes to improve health outcomes.
- Employ state, federal and global health policy(ies) to advocate for healthcare reform and improve health outcomes for all.
- Model professionalism, integrity, ethical decision making, respect for differing points of view in diverse populations and promoting social justice in the development of the advanced practice role.
- Utilize research for the improvement of nursing practice and the advancement of nursing as an academic discipline.
- Ascertain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to continuously improve the quality and safety of the health care systems in which they practice through lifelong learning.

Three MSN Majors:
Nursing Administration and Management (NAM)
Students are prepared for nurse leadership roles in management and administration.
Nursing Education (NE)
Students are prepared to teach in an academic and clinical setting by becoming proficient in curriculum development, teaching methods, educational needs and learner-centered theories and methods.
Nurse Practitioner (NP)
The College of Nursing Graduate Program offers the Nurse Practitioner Degree (NP) with a choice of six concentrations. The concentration area chosen defines the population and role you are academically preparing for. There is not a generic Nurse Practitioner designation, you must identify both population and advanced practice role. After you have taken and passed your national board certification exam you will use the official title designated by both the state BON where you practice and the certifying body for your accreditation. The NP degree allows you to sit for the specific concentration advanced practice board certification exam. Upon passing the exam you are then eligible to apply to the state BON where you practice for advanced practice status. The MSN NP Degree is issued by UTEP and the specific NP Certification is issued by the specific certificating agency.
The UTEP College of Nursing prepares advanced practice registered nurses in the role of the nurse practitioner for either primary or secondary (acute) care. Program concentration choices are:
