Our Mission

The Center for Institutional Evaluation, Research and Planning (CIERP) advances UTEP’s mission by leveraging data and analytics to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement through accurate reporting, institutional accountability, rigorous assessment and evaluation, and strategic planning.

Impact

The Center for Institutional Evaluation, Research, and Planning (CIERP) serves as UTEP’s central hub for institutional data and analysis. We collect, validate, and maintain the university’s official data for state and federal reporting, ensuring that information about UTEP is accurate, consistent, and reliable. Beyond compliance, CIERP transforms data into insight. Our work supports decision-making across Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Enrollment Management, Leadership, and the Academic Colleges—helping campus leaders evaluate programs, plan strategically, and improve student success. CIERP’s expertise also extends beyond UTEP, providing analysis of statewide and national higher education trends and benchmarking that inform policy and institutional planning. Through this work, we help the university tell its story through data and demonstrate the impact of its mission.

Our Team

Institutional Research

The institutional research team at CIERP is responsible for all state- and federally mandated reports, ad hoc data requests, and national level external surveys. Additionally, the team supports campus administrators, faculty, and staff with data requests related to accreditation reviews, grant proposals, and other evaluations.

Institutional Evaluation

Institutional Planning

The planning team at CIERP tracks and explores data for federal, state, and system accountability metrics and reports. The team actively participates in and leads institutional planning projects including Budget Planning, College Going in the El Paso Region, and the ongoing formation, evaluation, and evolution of UTEP’s strategic plan.
