STEM Summer Mysteries
The 2020 Summer program was centered around solving mysteries! Planning that started in person moved to a virtual format, and ultimately the camp program itself was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Regardless, MaST Academy scholars rallied together to create a two-week curriculum that took students through four mysteries! Students would have had to put their skills to the test to:
- Learn the anatomy of a virus and other prokaryotic organisms to build models and complete a scavenger hunt
- Apply statistical analysis to determine if a person has zombie symptoms
- Conduct an experiment with pH indicators to identify which solution is poisoned
- Calculate matrix operations to encrypt and unencrypt coded messages
- Use Punnett squares and blood-typing to identify a suspect
Although the camp was unable to be hosted, the curriculum, containing lesson plans, PowerPoint, handouts, and keys, can be viewed and utilized in your own classroom!
MaST would like to thank ADP, El Paso ISD, and El Paso High School for partnering with us. We would also like to thank Citlali Reyes for collecting and organizing the lesson plans into a website.
