Greetings, UTEP Moms and Dads:
I congratulate you on supporting your daughter/son to go on and pursue a college degree. As a parent myself, I know the financial and emotional sacrifices that you and your family have to undergo to support your child in pursuing her/his dreams. We know how invested you are in your child's futures; rest assured that we are too. It is for this reason that we have decided to dedicate a portion of our website to you. As we put ourselves in your place and try to provide all of the information that we feel you should have, we realize that we may have missed something, so I invite you to contact me with questions you may have.
Our hope is that you will encourage your daughter/son to visit the Career Center as early as their first semester in school. We offer a variety of services intended to develop your student, these include: on-campus and off-campus part-time and full-time job listings, career advising, various workshops ranging from résumé and interview preparation to applying to graduate school, internship program, etiquette dinner, and one-on-one assistance with one of our peer career advisors and/or professional staff members.
Please take some time to review our site; I think you will find that there is much to consider as parents of college students and much you can do to ensure their success.

As students make their way through their years at UTEP, there are many important milestones to reach along the way. This checklist can help them stay on track.
Q1. When should my daughter/son visit the Career Center?
Students should visit the Career Center no later than their sophomore year. The Center provides individual career advising, career oriented workshops (resume writing, interviewing, navigating a career fair, preparing for on-site interviews, etc.), internship and cooperative education opportunities, part-time and full-time jobs both on and off campus and hosts career fairs. Your daughter/son should seek out the Center early in order to prepare themselves for the many opportunities that exist. Competition for good jobs in certain fields in quite fierce and they need to be prepared. The center can advise students about how to be the strong candidate that employers are seeking.
Q2. What is a Career Fair?
A career fair is an excellent way for a student to network, explore career opportunities, and apply for professional full-time/part-time professional and internship opportunities. The Center hosts a number of fairs during the year. Visit our Career Fair link.
Q3. Where are your offices located?
Our office is located at 103 Union West and we are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Q4. Is there a cost for students to use the Career Center?
There is no additional cost for students to utilize our services.
Q5. What is the Career Center?
The Career Center is a department on campus that offers all students a means to enhance their career development, compliment their academic education and increase their employability befor and once they have graduated.
Q6. How can my daughter/son get a part-time job?
The Center maintains an online database (Job Mine) of both part-time and full-time jobs. The postings are updated daily and have listings for all types of positions. Q7. Who recruits at UTEP?
Over 350 employers recruit at UTEP students every academic year. They include; Microsoft, Shell, US Postal Service, USDA Forest Service, IBM, Raytheon, ExxonMobil, CIA, Pepsi, US Navy, Enterprise Rental, New York Life, Lockheed Martin, and NASA just to mention a few.
