Introducing an International Education Program

International Education Programs offer students the opportunity to advance their education and professional skills.  Facilitating an FLP study abroad/away program is a rewarding way to academically engage with students outside of a traditional classroom. The experience is transformative for students and faculty.

FLP  programs are offered during spring and winter break and summer terms. UTEP Faculty-Led Programs are opened to UTEP students as well as non-UTEP students. 

• UTEP Students earn UTEP credit. 
• Students from other institutions earn transfer credit. 

 

BUILDING BLOCKS

FLP Directors may establish stand alone programs, collaborate with an existing student exchange partner or another U.S. schools, and/or a third-party study abroad provider. 

The Study Abroad Office will provide guidance and administrative assistance with the preparation of Agreements of Cooperation and/or program proposal (domestic or overseas partners), providing updates as FLP proposals move towards execution.The Study Abroad Office will provide guidance and administrative assistance to faculty and staff facilitating a faculty-led program.

Regardless of the nature of the program, moving from planning to execution will require review from various administrative units, as indicated below:

1. Departmental Approval

Proposals, budgets, and risk management preparation/plan will require preliminary approval signatures from the Department Chair or corresponding Dean and the Study Abroad Office

2. First Review - Study Abroad Office

The Study Abroad Office will provide a first level review of proposals (e.g.., program proposal, risk management plan, budget, and collaborative agreement [if any])

3. Provost Office Review

The Office of the Provost will examine te academic components of a proposal.  The Office of the Provost reserves the right to cancel a program, at any time, due to safety, health issues and/or lack of program structure (based on U.S. State Department Travel Advisories).

4. Legal Affairs

The Office of Legal Affairs will review the terms of the Educational Agreements of Cooperation (e.g., partner school, study abroad third-party, other) and provide guidance according to UT system guidelines.

5. IOC Approval

Faculty Led Programs visiting countries, regions or cities designated by the U.S. State Department Travel Advisory as levels 3 or 4, will require UTEP's International Oversight Committee approval.
