Student Media and Publications offers students a hands-on experiential learning laboratory, which trains and guides them to gain the relevant skills they will need to become well-qualified professionals in new and established media.
Students may also fill leadership positions and learn such skills as providing direction; setting an agenda; selecting, organizing and managing a staff of student peers; conceiving and putting into force a content plan for a publication; building teamwork and consensus; and meeting deadlines.
Approximately 40 students per semester from different majors work together as a team to produce a once-weekly newspaper and to publish multimedia, web-first reporting and breaking news online.
