Our student highlight features distinguished alumni who have made significant strides in their professional lives after graduating. These individuals exemplify the talent, dedication, and creativity cultivated during their time with us.
Sofia Sierra
Graduated Spring 2026.
Sofia began at The Prospector in 2023 as a contributor writer and later served as Staff Reporter, Web Editor, and Sports Editor before concluding a college career as Editor-in-Chief of Minero Magazine. After graduation, Sofia went on to work for The Dallas Morning News.
Evelyn Palma
Graduated Fall 2025
Evelyn rose from web editor to Editor-in-Chief in 2025 for The Prospector and currently serves as the Weekend Assignment Editor for KFOX14/CBS4. She has quickly transitioned from student leadership to a key role in professional broadcast news.
Alyda Muela
Graduated Fall 2025
During her time with Student Media and Publications, she served as both Web & Copy Editor and Arts & Culture Editor. She will be joining the Dallas Morning News as a summer intern.
Dominque Macias
Graduated Fall 2025
Dominque began at The Prospector and Minero Magazine as a staff photographer and became Editor-in-Chief of Minero Magazine in Fall 2025 during her senior year. After graduating, Dominque is currently working as an Advertising Executive and Writer for The City Magazine.

Avery Escamilla
Graduated Spring 2025
Avery joined The Prospector in 2023 as a Staff Reporter, later serving as Multimedia Editor, Web Editor, Arts and Culture Editor, and ultimately Editor-in-Chief. After graduating, Avery moved to the Dallas area and is now a news intern at KERA.
Joseph Ezqueil Montero
Graduated Spring 2025
Joseph was a Staff Reporter for The Prospector in his Senior Year at UTEP and is now a Producer for KVIA News 7.
Marco Hinojosa
Graduated Spring 2025
Marco began his journey at The Prospector as Audience & Engagement Editor and, after several semesters with the publication, went on to become Editor-in-Chief of Minero Magazine. He is now working as a Morning News Producer for KFOX-14.
Jasmin Campoya
Graduated 2023
Jasmin has been an avid photographer from the get-go. She contributed as a photographer for both The Prospector and Minero Magazine, and later served as Photo Editor for Minero Magazine. She is now a News Producer at KTSM 9 News.
Katrina Villarreal
Graduated Spring 2023
Katrina served as a Staff Reporter and Multimedia Editor at The Prospector and now works as a Producer at KVIA Channel 7.
Iziah Moreno
Current Photo Editor for both The Prospector and Minero Magazine.
Iziah served as the photographer for the April cover of El Paso City Magazine
