Sarah Robertson Named Director of UTEP MAcc Program
A practicing CPA and award-winning accounting educator, Robertson takes the lead as UTEP’s Master of Accountancy program prepares for its next chapter.
The Big Picture
Practice and the classroom meet in one program.
Sarah Robertson is the new director of the Master of Accountancy program at the Woody L. Hunt College of Business.
Robertson brings experience from both sides of accounting education. She worked as a tax manager in public accounting before entering academia and remains closely connected to the profession as a practicing CPA.
In 2025, the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants named Robertson an Outstanding Accounting Educator. The statewide recognition followed years of work connecting accounting students with the profession they are preparing to enter.
From Practice to the Classroom
Students work like the professionals they are becoming.
Mentoring interns and early-career accountants helped shape Robertson’s approach to teaching.
Robertson also leads UTEP’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which gives students practical experience while providing free tax-preparation services to the community.

I build on these experiences and treat my students as interns in practice. I want my classes to provide practical knowledge that will help them be successful accountants.
A Stronger Professional Bridge
The profession stays close to the classroom.
As president of the TXCPA El Paso Chapter from 2024 to 2025, Robertson strengthened connections between UTEP and the region’s accounting community.
Those relationships bring CPAs and industry leaders into the classroom to provide mentoring, career guidance, and employment opportunities. They also give students a clearer view of the work, expectations, and career paths waiting beyond graduation.

What Comes Next
A changing profession shapes the next MAcc.
Robertson takes the lead as the MAcc moves to one annual fall admission cycle and updates its curriculum in response to new CPA licensure pathways.
The work includes reviewing the sequence and structure of courses to preserve flexibility while preparing students for a changing profession.
