The economist and Wall Street Journal columnist will lead two conversations on markets, institutions, and political economy.
The UTEP Center for Free Enterprise will welcome economist Abigail R. Hall, Ph.D., and The Wall Street Journal columnist Mary O’Grady to the Woody L. Hunt College of Business during its Fall 2026 Public Speaker Series.
The two events will bring research and public commentary into conversation through timely discussions of markets, institutions, and political economy.
Each event pairs an afternoon lecture or conversation with direct access to a nationally recognized scholar or commentator.

Tyranny Comes Home
Hall’s research examines the political economy of war, militarism, and government policy. She is the co-author of Tyranny Comes Home: The Domestic Fate of U.S. Militarism, which traces how tools and practices developed through foreign intervention can migrate into domestic institutions, surveillance, and policing.

She writes “The Americas,” a weekly column examining politics, economics, and business across Latin America and Canada. She joined the Journal in 1995 and has become a prominent commentator on markets, democratic institutions, and economic policy across the Western Hemisphere.
