Hunt Business Welcomes Students to Homecoming Week
Live mariachi music, food, and a visit from Mike and Caprice Brochu helped welcome hundreds of students to Homecoming Week at Hunt Business.

Students gather for a Homecoming welcome.
Hundreds of students gathered along the third-floor breezeway Monday for a welcome to Homecoming Week at the Woody L. Hunt College of Business.
A live mariachi band performed during the celebration. More than 500 hamburgers, hot dogs, and vegetarian burgers were served, along with drinks and sweets.
Faculty and representatives from Lauterbach, Borschow & Co. joined students for the celebration.
2026 Distinguished Alumnus Michael “Mike” Brochu ’74 attended with his wife, Caprice, and spent time meeting students. Dean John Hadjimarcou welcomed the crowd and thanked the alumni, partners, faculty, and staff taking part in the week.
“Homecoming gives our students a chance to meet the people who came before them and see what is possible with a Hunt Business education. It is also our opportunity to welcome our alumni home and thank them for continuing to invest their time in our students.”

Monday also marked the first public beta test of Woody’s Whirlwind, the college’s new cash tornado, giving students a chance to catch flying cash between classes.

Alumni return to where their careers began.
Monday’s welcome opened a week of classroom visits and conversations between students and alumni.
Brochu earned his BBA in Accounting in 1974 before building a career spanning energy, technology, and investment, including leadership roles at El Paso Natural Gas and Sierra Online.
He is joined this week by Gold Nugget John T. Hjalmquist, CPA ’78, whose career has included more than four decades of business leadership and continued involvement with Hunt Business through mentorship and service.
Across the Week
More time with students, in and out of class.
Brochu and Hjalmquist will visit classrooms and connect with students throughout Homecoming Week before being recognized Thursday at the college’s Outstanding Alumni Celebration.
On Friday, both honorees will participate in Lunch and Lead, giving students another opportunity to hear directly from them.
The week also includes the broader schedule of UTEP Homecoming events taking place across campus.
