Explora Juárez Takes Students Inside Border Business
Hunt College students visited an automotive plant, studied marketing at UACJ, and explored tourism and hospitality during two days in Ciudad Juárez.
The Big Picture
Students saw several sides of the Juárez economy.
Fifteen Hunt College students joined 30 peers from UACJ and UACH for Explora Juárez on Sept. 18–19. After the opening ceremony at UACJ, the group heard about the shared history of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez before heading to an automotive components plant.
Across the two days, students met people working in manufacturing and hospitality, heard what employers look for in candidates, and spent time in the city beyond its business sites.
Inside Bosch
The plant visit changed how one student pictured her career.
At Bosch, the talent acquisition team introduced students to the plant’s operations and explained what the company looks for when hiring. They also offered direct advice on what to include on a résumé — and what to leave off.
“Before visiting Bosch, I had never really seen myself working at a maquiladora, but the visit definitely opened some doors for me and made me interested in learning more about the company. Hearing directly from the hiring team also made me more aware of the experience and wording they look for in a résumé.”

Across the City
Marketing and hospitality brought a different view.
Saturday began at UACJ with a faculty presentation on border digital marketing. Students then visited Juan Gabriel’s former residence, the Museum of the Revolution on the Border, and the cathedral in downtown Ciudad Juárez.
The final business visit took them to Hotel María Bonita Las Misiones. A tour of the property and a discussion of regional tourism showed students another industry operating in the same city they had explored through manufacturing the day before.
