Dallas Fed Brings Bank Supervision to Hunt Business
Federal Reserve leaders gave students a closer look at how banks are supervised, how examinations work, and where that work can lead as a career.
The Big Picture
Bank supervision, from the people who do it.
Hunt Business and the UTEP Banking Academy hosted leaders from the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas on Sept. 10 for a Banking Supervision & Examination Overview at UTEP.
The session took students inside a part of the banking system that is often discussed from a distance: how the Dallas Fed examines and regulates the banks it oversees, how that work fits into the Federal Reserve System, and the career paths behind it.
The visit also opened a series of Dallas Fed engagements planned with Hunt Business and the Banking Academy during the Fall 2026 semester.
Inside the Visit
How bank supervision becomes a career.
Lorenzo Garza, vice president of Banking Supervision at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and Julietta Ezeiza, assistant vice president of Community Engagement & Development, led the discussion.
Students heard how the Dallas Fed approaches bank examinations and supervision, the Federal Reserve System’s broader role in banking, and the professional paths available in regulatory work.
The broader Dallas Fed delegation included Arturo Barrio, vice president and El Paso regional executive; Michelle Luevano, outreach manager for Community Engagement and Development; Paul Wheeler, vice president of Banking Supervision; and Emily Greenwald, senior vice president of Banking Supervision and Regulation, and Credit, Risk, and Reserves Management.
Tommy Gabriel, vice president and wealth management officer at WestStar, also joined the session.
Student Access
The conversation continued beyond the presentation.
Hunt Business and the Banking Academy also worked with the Financial Management Association student organization to create additional opportunities for students to engage with Dallas Fed representatives.
For students considering careers in banking, finance, risk, or regulation, the visit put people behind the institutions and gave them direct access to professionals working across several areas of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
