The Big Picture
Eight Executive MBA students from UTEP's Woody L. Hunt College of Business concluded the inaugural Golf for Business & Life program Oct. 14 with a nine-hole outing alongside business leaders and alumni at El Paso Country Club.
The three-session program introduced students to golf fundamentals, etiquette, and professional networking, including instruction from PGA-certified instructor Mike Smith at Ascarate Golf Course.

Students put their new skills into practice alongside professionals including:
- Janet Nail (MBA ’18) Senior Vice President of Global Operations at C2FO
- William Kell Retired Chief Operating Officer at Franklin Mountain Investments
- Jim Huff Chief Retail Officer at FirstLight Federal Credit Union
- Michael Levy UTEP Deputy Athletic Director
The outing concluded with a luncheon that brought students together with Hunt College partners and EMBA alumni.
Why It Matters
EMBA student Lucia Minjares Aguilar entered the program as a beginner and said the experience built her confidence to participate in new professional settings that were previously unfamiliar.
“You never know when someone might invite you to an important business golf event,” Aguilar said. “Learning the rules, the etiquette, and some of the essential playing skills means I can say yes to those opportunities confidently.”
Experienced golfer and EMBA student Jeremy Angle saw another benefit:
“The day gave me the kind of unhurried conversation that builds real professional relationships,” Angle said.
