Meet Dr. Jose Burgos, MBA 2016
July 3, 2018
What were you doing before starting the UTEP EMBA?
I was a professor of medicine and had just become the medical director for the Internal Medicine Hospitalist Program at University Medical Center of El Paso.
What attracted you to the UTEP EMBA?
I wanted to have a strong foundation in business administration because I was planning to open my first business venture. The EMBA course schedule enabled me to complete my coursework while meeting my professional obligations.
How has the UTEP EMBA helped you with your career aspirations?
In addition to being a medical director for UMC, I decided to start my own business ventures. I launched a thriving urgent care clinic. I have also ventured away from medicine and into the restaurant business. I opened two restaurants in West El Paso - Gusto and Poke3. I have plans to open two more Poke3 locations before the end of 2018.
What would you tell someone considering the UTEP EMBA?
Do it, you won’t regret it! It will give you the foundation you need to evolve in your career and provide you the tools you need to succeed. You will also form cherished bonds with your classmates and key community leaders.
