Tissue Engineering
Tissue engineering and 3D printing are becoming increasingly important to the future of medicine primarily because of shortage of organs for transplantation, leaving a number of patients on a long waiting list. If we can engineer organs using a patient's own cells, then we will not only be reducing the waiting period but also address the subject of rejection of a donated organ. The efforts involve combining engineering and biology as a systemic approach for the fabrication of cell-laden tissue-engineering constructs with high cell viability, with particular focus on bioengineered skin, cardiac tissue, and bone tissue.
