Extending the high temperature capability of turbine alloys is always a challenge. The research on niobium alloys is being extended to explore 3D printed Al and Si-based coatings on niobium-based alloys for high temperature applications to obtain thermally stable microstructure from the view point of oxidation resistance. This approach is expected to eliminate cumbersome coating practices.
