Rebecca Reid, Ph.D
I earned my Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of South Carolina in 2015 and joined UTEP as Assistant Professor that fall. I specialize in judicial politics, international law, and the rule of law. I am particularly interested in the ability of courts and law to exert influence over behavior. My research agenda explores the establishment and maintenance of the rule of law, the tensions and interactions between international and domestic law, separation of powers interactions, and the role of courts in transitioning and consolidating democracies. I am also interested in judicial independence, human rights, comparative judicial politics, internationalization and diffusion of laws, supranational courts, and transitional justice. My teaching interests include those topics related to my research as well as American constitutional law and methodology at the graduate and undergraduate levels. I currently serve as the Graduate Director of our department.
