MEET THE TEAM

Program:  The activities conducted by and at an institution that have a direct impact on the well-being of animals, including animal and veterinary care, policies and procedures, personnel and program  management and  oversight,  occupational health and safety, IACUC functions, and animal facility design and management ( the Guide ). 

  Federally Mandated Responsibilities of the IACUC

1. Review UTEP's animal care and ue program for human care and use of animals at least once every six months.
2. Inspect all animal facilities, including satellite facilities and surgical sites at least once every six months, using the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals as basis for evaluation.
3. Prepare reports of IACUC evaluations and submit them to the Institutional Official (IO).
4. Review of all concerns involving the care and use of animals at UTEP.
5. Make recommendations to the IO regarding any aspect of the animal care program.
6. Review, approve, require modifications in (to secure approval), or withhold approval of animal care and use protocols.
7. Review, approve, require modifications in (to secure approval), or withhold approval of proposed significant changes of animal care and use protocols. 
8. Suspend activities involving the use of live vertebrate animals in noncompliance; take corrective action and report actions to the appropriate funding agencies.

• and in accordance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
