Advising Toolkit for Cellular and Molecular Biochemistry Majors
Due to overwhelming demand for advising appointments, we at the CORE have created this guide for students to follow.
All links will open in a new window.
Toolkit Items:
- Blank copy of a degree plan that can be saved and filled-in.
- Sequence of Pre-Requisites for CBCH Coursework.
- Pre-requisite list for all courses.
- Sample four-year plan:
- Instructions on how to register for College of Science linked lectures and labs.
Advising Tips:
- Download the blank degree plan (Item #1) and keep track of your completed courses by updating the "Has" Column with earned credit hours, and updating the "Needs" column to reflect how many credit hours you have left in a particular section.
- The bottom right-hand corner of the degree plan keeps track of your overall progress toward degree completion
The right-most column of the degree plan keeps track of the courses required for your major (Sections B and C) and your Electives (Section D).
Section B:
Lists all courses in BIOL, MICR, and CBCH as required by the degree:
*The most important thing to remember with this degree is that some courses are only offered certain semesters.
Course(s) | Terms Offered |
BIOL 1305-1107, BIOL 1306-1108 | Any Semester |
MICR 2440 or MICR 2340-2141 | Any Semester |
BIOL 3320 | Any Semester |
BIOL 3314-3115 | Any Semester |
CBCH 3316 | Fall Only |
MICR 3449 | Spring Only |
MICR 4453 or MICR 4353-4154 | Fall Only |
MICR 3445 or MICR 3345-3146 | Fall Only |
CBCH 4414 | Spring Only |
CBCH 4310 | Fall Only |
CBCH 4320 | Spring Only |
Section C: Required Chemistry & Biochemistry Courses
The most important sequence of courses for this degree is the Chemistry and Biochemistry sequence. Many of your CBCH courses require you to have taken CHEM 3330 prior, which makes planning very important. You should take Chemistry every semester until you finish. You may want to consider taking a Chemistry course in the summer if offered.
Course | Terms Offered |
CHEM 1305-1105 | Fall, Spring, Summer 1 |
CHEM 1306-1106 | Fall, Spring, Summer 2 |
CHEM 2324-2124 | Fall, Spring, Summer 1 |
CHEM 2325-2125 | Fall, Spring, Summer 2 |
CHEM 3330-3131 | Fall, Spring, Sometimes Summer (rare) |
CHEM 3332 | Spring Only |
You can check pre-requisite information using Item #2 and/or Item #3 of the Toolkit.
Section D: Electives
The Cellular and Molecular Biochemistry Degree does not have any Free Electives, all of your Electives must be chosen from the ones listed on the degree plan.
You can use Item #3 of the Toolkit for more information on the specific courses.
Item #4 of the Toolkit contains samples of 4-year plans you can follow.
These plans are only a guide and you can choose how closely to follow the four-year plan or not.
