How to Check Your Classification
CLICK HERE for instructions on how to generate an unofficial transcript and find out your classification. Note that classification is determined by the total number of hours you have earned (both UTEP and transfer combined) regardless of whether they apply to your degree or not. The hours you are currently registered for do not apply to this total.
Upper Division Free Electives
Here you will find a list of example courses you can take if you have Upper Division Free Electives on your degree plan. This primarily applies to Biology Students with a Biomedical Concentration or Microbiology majors. If you have questions on whether you have the ability to take any free electives, please speak with your advisor.
Major Electives
- For BS in Biological Sciences - Biomedical Concentration OR BS in Biomedical Sciences ONLY
- These courses can be used toward the 19 hours listed under Section B of your degree plan EXCLUDING the ones already required by the degree. For those students on the NEW template, these courses go toward Sections C4 (Upper Division, 3000 or 4000 level only) and C5 (Any level).
- These courses can be used toward the 19 hours listed under Section B of your degree plan EXCLUDING the ones already required by the degree. For those students on the NEW template, these courses go toward Sections C4 (Upper Division, 3000 or 4000 level only) and C5 (Any level).
- Cellular and Molecular Biochemistry (CBCH), Microbiology (MICR), and Neuroscience - Biology Track (NEUR) ALL have eligible major electives listed ON the degree plan itself.
Course Sequence for Cellular and Molecular Biochemistry (CBCH) Majors
The CBCH degree has a very particular sequence of courses that must be taken in order to prevent delays of up to a year in graduation. This sequence is explained HERE. Please verify with your advisor if you experience any confusion about this sequence.
