Registration Process:
Upon admittance to UTEP the study abroad advisor will email you instructions for researching classes to take at UTEP and a “Course Selection Form”. This form should be typed, printed, signed and emailed to studyabroad@utep.edu.
Using the Online Course Catalog (www.utep.edu/classschedule) find courses that you would like to take at UTEP.
Undergraduate Students should plan on being registered for 12 credits (usually four courses). Course registration will be based on the department approval and space availability. No more than one online course is permitted.
Graduate Students should plan on being registered for 9 credits (usually three courses). Course registration will be based on the department approval and space availability. No more than one online course is permitted.
As a general rule, every course has four digits. For example, Marketing 4326. The first digit (in green) represents the grade level, in that manner, undergraduate students can take courses marked between the 1000 and 4000 levels; while, graduate students can take courses in the 5000 level or higher. The second digit (in red) represents number of US credits, in this case the class is worth three US credits (six ECTS). It also represents the number of hours it meets in a week during the semester; for example, this class is a three credit hour course, which means class meets three hours per week. Finally, the last two digits (in blue) are to differentiate the course.
Take courses in a variety of levels; you are discouraged from taking more than three courses in the 3000 level or above, especially in engineering and sciences.
Certain courses and programs at UTEP are closed or restricted to incoming exchange students or have high enrollment demand and limited seats available.
The UTEP study abroad advisor and academic advisor for your program will work with you to register for these courses or to find alternatives. Please remember that placement in courses is NOT guaranteed.
The Study Abroad Office is NOT able to process your Course Selection Form until you have submitted your proof of meningitis vaccination to meningitis@utep.edu.
