Why Study At UTEP
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a public research university in El Paso, Texas. UTEP is the second-largest university in the U.S. to have a majority Mexican American student population (about 80%) and the university's College of Engineering is the nation's top producer of Hispanic engineers with M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.
The campus is one of the few places in the world outside of Bhutan or Tibet to have buildings created with the Dzong architectural style. It sits on hillsides overlooking the Rio Grande river, with Ciudad Juárez in view across the Mexico–United States border.

Housing
Housing is available in on-campus apartments. All of the rooms are already furnished and utilities are included in the housing charge. Other benefits include:
- Laundry facilities inside the building.
- Conveniently located usually within walking distance from the school or a less than a 5-minute walk to a bus line, stores and restaurants. Miner Canyon is located within walking distance to the Recreational Center.
- Living in a dorm is a great opportunity for you to meet other students and develop close friendships. There may also be pre-arranged activities available through the dorm for you to learn more about the local city, country or culture.
You will receive an email from the Residence Life Department with instructions for how to reserve housing before you arrive. A refundable $200 deposit will also be required. Exchange students are usually housed in either the Miner Village or Miner Canyon apartments.
