Sevilla Program
About
A three-week course will cover an interdisciplinary exploration on global perspectives on disability to include public health and educational perspectives. The program includes faculty-led excursions to various historically and artistically significant parts of southern Spain and Madrid.
- Special Education
An in-depth analysis of current international policies that promote the integration of social welfare programs that affect the rights of individuals with disabilities. Emphasis on the way behavior, learning problems, and physical disorders impact learning will be explored by comparing educational systems globally and in the U.S.
Topics will include information on origins of special education, prevalence and incidence rates, global and national trends in legislation and litigation, educational interventions, working with families, teacher training, a perspective on the progress of special education in a globalized world.
- Occupational Therapy
A Spanish language immersion program for graduate and undergraduate students interested in the health professions that includes a health professional collaboration component. Learn Spanish for health professionals, the culture and health habits of the people including the dietary habits, physical and work routines and meaningful activity patterns all while collaborating with other UTEP students interested in health professions.
- Anthropology of Food, Culture and Society
Eligibility
Approval for SPED 3310 is required by the Center for Student Success (College of Education). Interested students from other majors are welcome – final approval for course registration is required by Dr. Argus Calvo. Offered for freshmen through doctoral students. Minimum GPA of 2.75.
Occupational Therapy is only for College of Health Sciences Undergraduate and Graduate students. Offered for freshmen through doctoral students. Minimum GPA of 2.7.

- Global Health Issues in Rehabilitation (DRSC 4311/3332)
- Global Perspective of Special Education Services for Students in General and Special Education Settings (SPED 3310/4350/5350)
- Occupational Therapy (OT 5350/5204)
