She then earned her DNP in 2019 and came to UTEP in May 2020, joining her older brother and parents here in the borderland.
Subjects she teaches:
Evidence-Based Research, Nursing Leadership and Management, Nursing in the Community, UNIV 1301 for Nursing students.
On what ignited her passion for these subjects:
My own BSN program was a hybrid online face-to face program and I enjoy helping other Associate-prepared nurses to further their education and increase their career opportunities..
Her proudest accomplishment and biggest challenge as an online instructor:
I am most proud of the modifications that have been made to make the degree program simpler for students, and also to translate their research for class into action for improvement where they work, and health promotion education in their community.
It can be challenging to keep everyone engaged, but generally the RN to BSN students are invested in their own progress, and do not require a great deal of prompting to complete their work.
On what makes a successful online student:
To be successful, students must keep track of assignment due dates and ask questions if they are unsure about the instructions. Setting aside time for school is important to be able to do the readings, and answer assignments with in depth thought.
Her advice to online students:
Time management is key to success. Working ahead when possible, checking each day for messages or announcements, and staying engaged will lead to success.
