Soyeon Lee is an Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Writing Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso. Her research interests include technical communication and user experience studies. She earned her online Graduate Certificate in Teaching Technical Communication at Texas Tech University in 2021.

On what ignited her passion for these subjects:

Grant writing is a highly transferable subject matter that can be applied to corporate and community settings.

Her proudest accomplishment and biggest challenge as an online instructor: 

My proudest accomplishment is that students are considering grant writing and technical writing for their career path. The online environment is challenging in the beginning. However, once online learning goals are shared, this learning environment can deepen the joy of learning and experiential learning outcomes. 

On what makes a successful online student:

[Someone who has] clear goals for their own academic and professional careers.

Her advice to online students: 

Online learning and certificate programs are great ways to network with other learners across different disciplines and locations and enter into professional communities.
