Patsy Delilah Chaparro was born and raised in El Paso. She currently works in Las Cruces as the RN weekend supervisor in a skilled nursing facility that primarily serves geriatric populations.
Delilah received her LVN and RN at El Paso Community College. IN 2025, she earned her RN-BSN at UTEP. She is now enrolled in the MSN- Family Nurse Practitioner at UTEP, and expects to graduate in August 2027.
"I love being a nurse and couldn't picture myself doing anything else," she says. "I absolutely love geriatrics, and I have such an immense soft spot my elderly."
Why she enrolled in the program:
I enrolled in the RN-BSN program at UTEP due to the convenience of being able to manage school online and work, all while being a full-time parent.
Her experience with online learning:
I studied online at the University of Texas at Arlington for my BSN. However, I decided to transition to UTEP because of the their flexibility in scheduling for online classes. Flexibility [allowed me] to achieve all my goals. Graduation for my BSN happened within a blink of an eye. I am so proud to be a UTEP Miner and graduate!
On whether this degree has played a part in her employment:
This degree has definitely played a part in my current employment. It [gave me more insight into] updated educational standards and studies for nursing.
Pursuing the BSN to RN program at UTEP was a transformative journey that strengthened my growth as a nurse professionally and mentally. The program expanded my clinical expertise, sharpened my critical thinking, and prepared me to take on greater responsibility in patient care. Through challenging coursework and the unwavering support of faculty, I built stronger leadership skills and a newfound confidence in my practice. Mentally, this journey taught me resilience, time management, and the importance of self-care qualities that have shaped me into a more prepared and compassionate nurse.
On whether she has the support she needs:
I would not be here if it wasn't for my family and the support that they have given me all throughout my educational journey.
What she would say to prospective online students:
I want other students to know that anything is possible, although it might take some people longer to achieve their educational goals. One class at a time makes a big difference, so just do it. Have faith and take the leap.
On whether she would enroll in this program again if she had to do things over:
Absolutely, I would do it again.
