Meagan Shank
2018 Graduate, Bachelor of Arts in Organizational and Corporate Communication
Meagan Shank lives in Maine and is a graduate of the fully online BA in Organizational and Corporate Communication program. Thanks to UTEP Connect, she was able to continue working on her degree without losing any credits even after she moved to the northeast from El Paso. In fact, she says the realization that she could continue to get her degree with UTEP because of online learning spurred her to "risk it all and move to New England." Meagan graduated in Fall 2018.
Why she enrolled in the program:
I enrolled in this program after deciding I wanted to move from El Paso to Maine, but continue to work toward getting my degree. I liked that I was able to keep my credits from EPCC and transfer them to UTEP without having to transfer to a school across the country and lose everything I had already worked for.
Her experience with online learning:
I did some online courses at EPCC, but this was the first online learning experience I have had where all my courses were online.
I love online learning because it gave me the ability to go to school on my own time. Because I am not required to be at class at a certain time, I was able to work and do what I need to do when it worked for me.
What she plans to do next:
With my degree, I hope to move toward working in the marketing or advertising field. I would like to become a copywriter or help with marketing research at a company.
We received a recent update from Meagan about what she's doing now:
As a Content Marketing Coordinator for CCA Global Partners, my degree helps me assist small business owners increase potential sales leads, teach local flooring store owners across the country about the basic principles of SEO, and update national and Canadian webpages to increase web traffic for the Carpet One Floor & Home and Flooring America brands. It's also given me the opportunity to create a unique way to reach new customers for my brand - a magazine! Beautiful Design Made Simple magazine and Design at Home magazine wouldn't be possible without the degree I earned from UTEP Connect. With over 16,000 copies printed quarterly, these magazines give owners a unique way to connect with customers on a more personal and trend-focused level. They provide a one-of-a-kind look at flooring products, decor and furniture that would work well together, and help keep customers excited about their purchase. Not only do they inspire but they also improve rapport and customer satisfaction - all elements that help these local flooring stores succeed.
On the support available to her as an online student:
I had the support I needed. My academic advisor was always available and responded quickly to any questions I had. The process of registering was seamless, simple, and quick which was helpful. I appreciate that my advisor responded and worked quickly even though he did not see me in person.
I would absolutely enroll in this program again. I worked very hard to get where I am today, and without UTEP Connect I’m not sure if I would have been able to finish my degree.
What she would say to a prospective online student:
If you think that you do not have time to go to school or finish school because you are working, think again. UTEP Connect gives you the ability to do it, as long as you are committed to your future success. Online classes have changed my life, and have given me a new outlook on education.
