IRB Training Requirements

All UTEP researchers (faculty, staff, and students) and outside collaborators who will be conducting human subjects’ research must complete human subject research ethics training in order to conduct research with human participants.

Training can be completed through the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). Once completed, the training is valid for three years and accepted at most universities across the United States.

Training requirements apply to all persons with a role in the research (PIs, Co-PI, Project Managers, Research Assistants or Faculty Advisors) and who are designated to:

  • Recruit potential research participants
  • Obtain informed consent from prospective research participants
  • Interact or intervene with participants to collect research data
  • Analyze identifiable research data

As you register and create an account, you will be asked supplemental questions about your role with human subjects and research

Click on Human Subject Research when choosing the appropriate course path(s).  Once you arrive at the three learning groups, select the learning group most applicable to you.

  • Nursing, Pharmacy & Allied Health Researchers
  • Social & Behavioral Researchers
  • IRB Members- ONLY for IRB Committee Members
