In May 2022, the world's top teams will gather to participate in a robotics competition focused on creative design and problem solving. Student-led teams will showcase their game strategy, design and teamwork skills to be crowned champions at this world class event, hosted by the Northrop Grumman Foundation and the REC (Robotics Education & Competition) Foundation. The renowned REC Foundation’s VEX Robotics World Championship, is the largest robotics competition in the world, where top qualifying teams from local, state, regional, and international VEX Robotics Competitions gather to celebrate STEM excellence and compete in a week-long event practicing their hands-on STEM knowledge. The competition will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, TX, May 3 through May 7.
“UTEP’s College of Engineering VEX U robotics Miner5 team qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship after an impressive performance during the Regional Qualifying Tournament, earlier in March,” said Robert C. Roberts, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and team mentor. “The VEX U Robotics Competition is a great way for our students to apply their interdisciplinary engineering skills to real world problems in a high-pressure environment.”
IEEE- Robotics and Automation Society chapter (IEEE-RAS) team consists of nine members from different engineering disciplines. Team members include Eunize Tobias (EE), David Guereca (ME), Brayan Garcia Pong (EE), Jorge Oropeza (ME), Kenya Moreno (MME), Alan Melendez (EE), Marco Colmenero (EE), Naily Delgado (MME), and Alejandro Medina (EE).
“I have been a part of IEEE-RAS for several years now, I know the struggle behind trying to get a VEX U team together, getting resources, and competing. I enjoy being part of the VEX U team.I get to participate in interdisciplinary projects where I not only apply technical skills from my field, but also learn from other disciplines. We are grateful that we were able to compete in a regional event this season and that we qualified to the 2022 VEX Worlds Championship,” said President of the IEEE-RAS UTEP Chapter, Eunize Tobias.
