March 19, 2009
A Civil Engineering Professor at The University of Texas at El Paso was honored this week by the Geo Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
Dr. Soheil Nazarian serves as chair of the Geophysical Engineering Committee, one of 12 national committees that serve to advance the state of knowledge of a given area and communicate it to the community of civil engineers.
“We arrange a lot of conferences and sessions to transfer knowledge to civil engineers,” said Nazarian. An example would be “comparing new technologies to old ones and transferring that knowledge.”
Of ASCE’s 12 national committees, the Geophysical Engineering Committee, led by Nazarian, was named Committee of the Year. The committee was honored this week at the 2009 Geo Institute Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. The award also provided the committee with a $1,500 stipend.
Nazarian’s committee was acknowledged for its wise and creative use of special project’s funding and contributions to Geo Strata, a publication of the Geo Institute.
