Frequently Asked Questions
What is my financial aid status?
When will I receive my financial aid?
After you register for classes, your financial aid will be authorized, and your statement will show the amount you are expected to receive. Ten days before the semester begins, your financial aid will disburse to your UTEP account, but only if all pending requirements have been completed.
If your financial aid does not cover all your charges for the semester, you will need to make a payment or enroll in a payment plan. If your financial aid is more than your charges, you will receive the difference as a refund to help you pay for school supplies and living expenses.
Refunds are issued as checks, or you can sign up for direct deposit to receive your funds directly in your personal bank account.
There are different factors that can affect the amount of financial aid you receive, including the requirements of specific types of aid and the availability of funding. Your financial aid is calculated based on your cost of attendance and financial need, and may be adjusted if you make changes to your application, enroll in fewer credits, or drop classes.
To continue to receive financial aid, you must also make satisfactory academic progress.
Can I attend UTEP and community college at the same time?
For students in certain programs, attending classes at UTEP and community college at the same time may be a good strategy. To include your community college classes as part of your cost of attendance and enrollment level for financial aid, you must submit a Concurrent Enrollment Form before the semester starts. If approved, your financial aid for both schools will be received at UTEP, because you cannot receive financial aid from two different schools.
A new form must be submitted each semester that you attend both schools, and it will only be approved if you attend at least half-time at UTEP. The courses you take at the community college must be approved by your academic advisor at UTEP, and you must submit your transcript to the Office of Admissions immediately after grades are posted at the end of the semester.
Will I lose my financial aid if I fail or drop a class?
Can I get financial aid for summer classes?
Yes, financial aid grants are frequently available for Texas resident undergraduate students attending summer. If eligible for loans, you may also be able to borrow any leftover loan amount.
