Complete the FAFSA
Students interested in applying for financial aid (grants, loans, and work-study) must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The application is available online at www.fafsa.gov.
Before beginning the application, UTEP encourages students to have the following available:

Students, parents, and borrowers are required to use an FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to access certain U.S. Department of Education websites.

Social Security Card

Documentation that you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or other eligible noncitizen, if applicable

Your driver’s license (if applicable)

W-2 forms for the previous year for the student and/or their spouse; or the student and/or their parent(s); and other records of money earned

Most recent Federal Income Tax Return-IRS Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, foreign tax return (if applicable) for the student and/or their spouse; or the student and/or their parent(s)

Records of untaxed income for the previous year, e.g. payments to tax deferred pensions, savings plans, tax-exempt interest, and child support received for the student and/or their spouse or parent(s)

Records of taxable earnings from federal work-study or other need-based work programs

Records of any grants, scholarships, and fellowship aid that was included in adjusted gross income (AGI) for the student and/or their spouse (if independent); or the student and/or their parent(s) (if dependent)

Any current bank statements

Any current business and investment mortgage information, business and farm records, stock, bond, and other investment records
